On 5 November 2026 at 19:30, Klang Systematiek presents Mikrophonie I by Karlheinz Stockhausen and Arktik by Terje Rypdal at Kostel Panny Marie Sněžné, Prague.
This programme brings together two works that transformed the way we think about listening. In Mikrophonie I, Stockhausen turns a single tam-tam into an extraordinary landscape of sound, explored with microphones, filters, and an ever-changing collection of objects. Nothing is taken for granted; every gesture becomes an act of discovery, revealing a world of unexpected colours and resonances hidden within the instrument.
Where Stockhausen looks inward, uncovering an entire world within a single instrument, Arktik opens outward. Inspired by the vast landscapes of the north, Terje Rypdal’s music unfolds in broad, luminous gestures, moving effortlessly between contemporary composition and the open horizons of jazz. For this performance, Klang Systematiek is joined by guitarist Bjarne Roupé, whose long-standing engagement with Rypdal’s music brings a distinctive voice to the project.
Together, these works invite us to experience sound as something physical, tactile, and constantly evolving. From the microscopic detail of Stockhausen’s sonic investigations to the expansive spaces of Rypdal’s musical landscapes, the evening offers a journey through two remarkable musical imaginations, discovering that even the most familiar sounds can become something entirely unexpected.
